David Johns is the humanities curriculum coordinator for the Des Moines
Public Schools. His responsibilities include oversight of curriculum in the
areas of history, social studies, and world languages. He also coordinates the International Baccalaureate programming of the district. He is a graduate
of Brown University and completed his graduate studies at Drake University. His work as an educator has included school teaching, museum education, curriculum consultation as well as recent work on the Iowa Core curriculum in the areas of history, economics, and global literacy. As a humanities educator, he encourages students and teachers to "connect
with the world" through the study of languages, cultures, and geography.
