2. Will I still receive phone calls from the library?
Generally, no. Email notification replaces
our automated phone calling system for patrons that choose email.
3. What will my email notices
look like?
All library email notices will show in your inbox as from pldmdynix@desmoineslibrary.com and the subject line will read, "Library Notice." Each notice will list your name, whether you have item(s) to pick up, what those items are, and at which branch the item(s) are waiting. If you also have an overdue item or two, the notice may alert you to that as well. If you need more information about your account, check your record online anytime, or call our automated telephone service 24 hours a
day at (515) 283.4000 . During library hours, you may talk to our helpful, knowledgeable staff at 283.4152.
4. When will I receive my email notices?
Most email notices will be automatically delivered by our system at about 9 a.m. each morning.
5. What do I need to do when I place holds?
Why does the computer say it's going to notify me by phone?
Our system default is to notify people by phone. However, once you have signed up for email notification, our system remembers your preferences and will automatically send you email, even though
it says "phone." We're sorry for any confusion!
6.Why do I sometimes still receive notices in the U.S. mail?
It is still our practice to send final billing notices in U.S. Mail, so that you have a handy written record for your files. Also, if we try to reach you by email or phone and fail to do so, our system will automatically generate a printed notice.
7.What if my email address changes?
Please notify us of any changes in your email address. You may email our administrators at pldmdynix@desmoineslibrary.com. You
may also call 283.4152, or stop into any library branch to update your information.
8. What if I wish to discontinue
email notification?
Simply email our administrators at pldmdynix@desmoineslibrary.com, call
(515) 283.4152,
or stop into any library branch and request that email notification be cancelled for your account.
9. What if I want to cancel a hold about which I'm notified?
Simply access your record online by visiting our MY STUFF page and cancel the hold, or call (515) 283.4000 , anytime, day or night. In addition, our staff can help you during library hours, either in one our locations, or by phone at 283.4152.
10. What about confidentiality
and security?
The Des Moines Public Library is committed to confidentiality for all patrons. The library will never give out your email address or personal information to any outside source. The library will not use your email address for any other purpose than sending library communications. Remember, however, that email notices will list your name, the titles that are waiting for you to pick up, and perhaps an indication that other titles are overdue. Some families share computers and email accounts, and may not wish to have library notices with this type of information arriving to a common mailbox.
If this is the case, you may prefer to use our phone notification service, which does not list titles, and is therefore more anonymous.
11. What if my email account screens for bulk mailor junk mail?
Some Internet providers, such as Hotmail and Yahoo! offer you the option of screening out bulk mail and junk mail. If you have an email account which is screening out bulk mail, you may inadvertently screen out Library Notices as well. To avoid this, add pldmdynix@desmoineslibrary.com to your "safe list," or to the list of addresses that you allow delivery to your Inbox. The instructions should work similarly on other email systems. Contact the Library Email Administrator at pldmdynix@desmoineslibrary.com if you have additional questions.
12. Whom do I contact for additional help?

283.4152.
Stop in at any of our six convenient locations.
